Lockerley Silver Band
A friendly and welcoming
Hampshire village band
Lockerley Silver Band, based in the village of Lockerley in Hampshire, has been in existence since 1880.
The age range of current band members span a very wide gulf indeed, from pre-
Like most bands in recent years, we have found it difficult to recruit new players. It is mainly for this reason that the band gave up contesting some years ago. With so many brass bands in the 20 mile radius surrounding Lockerley and so few youngsters taking up brass instruments, I'm sure we will struggle with this problem for some years to come.
A few years ago we were very fortunate to have completed a major refurbishment of our practice room ( The Parish Rooms). This was funded by the Band and the Parish Council. We can now enjoy pleasant surroundings, modern toilet and kitchen facilities and very efficient heating in the winter months (at last). It’s also so nice to be able to have a cup of tea at ‘half time’.
Our Bandmaster, Richard Taylor, is also a well known and highly respected composer and his experience gives us an edge over many other local bands.
You are welcome to join us even for just a blow
If you would like to see our facilities and have a 'blow' with us, please feel free to contact us or just come along on any Friday at 8 pm. You will be made very welcome.
We are always looking for new players in most sections of the band, so please feel free to come along and join in whatever instrument you play. Existing players are always happy to adjust or move positions or instruments to accommodate new players. So don’t worry if you think your usual position is already filled.
Where and When
Practices are held every Friday evening at 8pm in the Parish Room, Romsey Road, Lockerley. Next to St John The Baptist Church (click here for directions). New and visiting players are always most welcome.
